Referrals

Since Saco River Medical Group is an independent medical practice accepting most major insurance plans, you and your physician decide together where you will receive the best care if you need to see a specialist.

We work closing with patients in making choices based on specific medical needs, pre existing relationships, convenience, insurance requirements and other person preferences.

Our Referral coordinator will work closely with your insurance company in making sure your referral is approved.

All referrals are subject to the restrictions/conditions imposed by the insurance company.

Once your referral is complete, it will be forwarded to the specialist.  Depending on the insurance company, it may take up to 10 days for a referral to be fully processed and forwarded to the specialist’s office.  HMO insurance companies must approve our request for a referral, assign a referral authorization number, and forward that information to the specialist.  Our Staff is very conscientious in processing referrals as expeditiously as possible.

Your referral will be delayed if:

• Your request was not generated from a recent visit. In this event your request would have to be forwarded to your provider for approval.
• If you have an HMO insurance and SRMG is not listed as your provider.
